Festival Eucharist
This morning our choir will be accompanied by strings, winds and brass. After the service, while the children enjoy their Easter egg hunt, the adults are invited to enjoy a glass of fizz. Our Easter reception will be held at the back of church and we invite you to celebrate the festival with us. Donations of £1 for a glass of fizz will be gratefully received in the pot on the refreshments table.
St John’s Choir
Our thanks to Robert Greenhill, Nick Miller, our volunteer choir members, our choral scholars and visiting musicians for providing us with such excellent music this morning and throughout Lent. Robert and the choir deserve a well earned rest and will be away the following Sunday. During the choir’s break, we shall use our folk tunes mass setting. The choir will return on Sunday, 5th May.
A Big Thank You
Thank you to those that have helped to make the church look so festive this morning through donations to the Easter flowers and helping to clean and prepare the church for today’s services. Thank you also to those who have helped with catering for this morning’s reception and with the children’s activities this morning and on Good Friday.
The Big Breakfast!
Michela Castellarin deserves a big thank you for doing us so proud this morning, preparing a nourishing breakfast to accompany our champagne after celebrating the dawn of Easter morning at the early service.
Culture Vultures
Tuesday 21st May 7.00-7.30pm, at the Vicarage.
Meet the Author Evening in aid of St John ‘s high roof works appeal: St John's is very fortunate that parishioner William Shawcross, recently retired chair of the Charities Commission, broadcaster (for BBC television he wrote and presented in 1995 the series Monarchy and in 2002, to tie-in with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, the series Queen and Country), author and historian has agreed to be the guest of honour at a Meet the Author Evening. All profits from this occasion will go towards the St John’s High Roof Works Appeal. The evening begins with a fizz and canapés reception from 7pm, followed at 7.30pm by the author’s talk on his 2009 book ‘The Queen Mother: The Official Biography’ and a question and answer session. Bring your copy if you would like the author to sign it! A two course buffet supper with wine will then be served, with an opportunity to speak to William (and ask all those questions which you were too shy to ask earlier!). All this for £48, numbers are limited, with payment to Margaret please, cheques preferred.
Services This Coming Week
There will be no evening mid-week services this week. There will also be no 8am service next Sunday, 28th April. Normal services will resume on Monday, 29th April.
Office Closure
The parish office will be closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It will reopen at 9.00am on Thursday.
COMMUNITY EVENTS
Spring Walk,
Sunday 28th April
If you fancy a fresh spring walk, come and join us as we journey over to Kew and walk the Thames Path to Richmond. All are welcome to take part, and so if you’re keen, join us after the 10am service at the Westend of church, before we set of together. If you are interested in the route, please speak with Samantha Tear.
Stay and Play
A community playgroup that meets weekly in St John’s on Thursday mornings from10-11.30am. Come and stay for a play, a sing-song and to share stories over a cup of coffee. All children and babies are welcome (newborn to 5 years). Suggested donation: £2.
