NOTICES 29 MAY 2022

Look up!  Something’s Stirring!

As we begin to come out of the pandemic, we are grateful to those who have been steady in their financial support during the past two years, but now is the time for us to start thinking about rebuilding our music, taking on an organist, staffing and getting back to normal, so we need your help please.  Your contributions are really valued and so, in the coming months, we plan to encourage members of the congregation to review their giving, or to give regularly if they don’t already do so, to help us fund our recovery.

Please continue to help us if you can by contributions either on Sunday mornings in the collection plate or, alternatively, directly to our bank account.  Our details are:

Name: St John the Evangelist

Bank: HSBC

Sort Code: 40-11-58

Account #: 80108251

Donations given electronically still qualify for Gift Aid as your name will appear alongside your donation.  If you have any questions about giving, please speak to Bryan Sollenberger.

HM Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee

2-5 June 2022

St John’s Celebrates Sunday, 5th June, 10am

We give thanks for 70 years of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Sunday, 5th June with a festival service at 10am.  The mass setting will be Puccini’s Messa di Gloria.  The choir will be accompanied by strings and woodwinds.  The service will be followed by a fizz reception and big lunch in church, with an entertainer and a big screen to watch the events in the Mall!  This is a day not to be missed!

An important part of the day will be the setting out of the church for lunch following the 10am service.  If you would like to be part of Team Andre, do speak to him.

We needed to finalise numbers earlier this week.  If you had not already signed up but now wish to come, contact Bryan in the parish office to enquire if there are any places available.

Whitsun Carols

12th June, 6pm

A unique musical service concluding our annual cycle of carol services which celebrate the Christian festival seasons.  Now we proclaim Easter through Trinity, charting the movement of the Spirit who is Love, through the Son who is Beloved, for the glory of the Father who is Lover.  Alongside Bible readings, poetry and hymns, our choir and guest musicians will provide a great selection of music, including Love Changes Everything by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Gloria in Excelsis by CV Stanford and Marvel’s Captain America March.  A reception of Pimms and cucumber sandwiches will follow.

Culture Vulture Ventures

Vestments at St John the Baptist, Shepherd’s Bush

8th June, 6pm

In a soft re-launch, the Culture Vultures are Venturing out to Shepherd’s Bush. Starting with dinner at Alounak, an Iranian restaurant (highly recommended by the local vicar!) we will then walk to the church, which is only 5mins away. St John the Baptist Shepherd’s Bush is English Heritage Grade I status, and it’s so magnificent, a tour of everything would take a whole day, so we will have an evening tour of their magnificent vestments collection. They have a full set of chasuble, dalmatic, tunicle, cope, burse and maniple for every colour and season of the church year! And they’ll explain what those even are!! Plus some incredible banners and other embroidered church accessories. Two course set menu is £40 (incl soft drink) and a suggested donation of £10 to the church. Nearest tube is Shepherd’s Bush or get the 148 from Stop LD on Bayswater Road and get off at Shepherd’s Bush, go down Holland Road and turn right down Russel Gardens. To secure your place, please pay Georgina for dinner and donation.
