Whitsun Carols
12th June, 6pm
A unique musical service this evening concluding our annual cycle of carol services which celebrate the Christian festival seasons. Now we proclaim Easter through Trinity, charting the movement of the Spirit who is Love, through the Son who is Beloved, for the glory of the Father who is Lover. Alongside Bible readings, poetry and hymns, our choir and guest musicians will provide a great selection of music, including Love Changes Everything by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Gloria in Excelsis by CV Stanford and Marvel’s Captain America March. A reception of Pimms and cucumber sandwiches will follow.
Rebuilding St John’s!
Don’t be a spectator – get involved!
Your church needs you - now is the time to get positive and to rekindle the spirit of St John’s. We cannot do this by the staff team alone and we encourage members of the congregation to get back involved… We need servers to help carry the cross and candles in the service, people willing to help with coffee and hospitality, as well as people to help Red Balloon in Kids’ Club. For Kids’ Club to be revived we need to have more than one group and so the Red Balloon leaders need your help. If you are not currently volunteering, take this opportunity to get involved on one of the rotas. Speak to Bryan or Andre this morning!
Donations given electronically still qualify for Gift Aid as your name will appear alongside your donation. If you have any questions about giving, please speak to Bryan Sollenberger.
St John’s Summer Barbecue
Sunday, 3rd July
Our annual barbecue this year is on 3rd July following the 10am service. The residents of Raynham and Oxford and Cambridge Squares are again kindly opening up their gardens to us. St John’s provides the meat and dessert, you provide a salad. Suggested donations of £5/person, £2/child. Please sign up in the porch, indicating how many will be in your party and what salad you will be bringing.
Save the Date!
Social activities are returning to St John’s! Here is a heads up for future events:
Friday, 2 September Dog Collar Dinner (a safari supper around the staff residences)
Thursday, 13 October St John’s Quintessential Quiz Evening
Guard’s Chapel Podcast
On 1st May, our curate Georgina was the visiting preacher at The Royal Military Chapel (The Guards' Chapel). An abridged version of the service (21min) is available as a podcast, which is reliably known as a regular listen for members of the Royal Household. You can find the podcast at www.householddivision.org.uk/guards-chapel-podcasts. The music is fabulous and the choir is almost as good as ours, but if you would like to skip to the sermon, it is at 5min 58sec.
If you missed Culture Vulture Ventures…
On Wednesday, a group from our church had dinner together and then visited St John the Baptist Shepherd’s Bush to see their treasures. It was an amazing evening! If you missed out, there is luckily an opportunity to get some of the tour - there are two available for anyone to book, £10 a ticket on 2nd of July. It won’t be everything we got to see on our private tour, but it’s really worth going if you can! For details, search on Eventbrite for ‘Tour of St John the Baptist’.
